Monarchs Power Past Saltdogs on Opening Night

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City Monarchs gave their 4,475 fans a perfect Opening Night. 

The Monarchs stormed past the Lincoln Saltdogs to an 8-1 victory to open up 2025. Home runs from Robbie Glendinning, Peyton Holt and Isiah Gilliam sent the Legends Field crowd into a frenzy.

Kansas City’s pitching dominated, led by 2024’s ace of staff. Julian Garcia (1-0) dazzled with seven strikeouts in 5.0 scoreless innings.

Holt’s two-run home run in the sixth inning was a moment he would never forget. The former Arkansas Razorback was part of Kansas City’s open tryout roughly two weeks ago.

Friday night was near perfection; two hits, two driven in and some fantastic defense at third base.

Holt gave the Monarchs (1-0) breathing room in the middle innings. The third baseman muscled a blast into the Kansas City Kansas Community College bullpen to give KC a 4-0 lead.

Isiah Gilliam rounded out the night with an opposite field Grand Slam. The returning Monarch boomed his first home run of the season on top of the Home Run Patio Wall to make it 8-0.

Monarchs Close Preseason On A High Note

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City Monarchs’ hit parade proved too much for the Winnipeg Goldeyes in the teams’ preseason finale.

The Monarchs used 12 singles to pace past the Goldeyes, 5-2, at Legends Field. Kansas City scored five unanswered runs to claim victory in the eight-inning exhibition.

Kansas City overcame an early 2-0 Winnipeg lead in the middle innings. Jaylyn Williams scored on a wild pitch in the third to cut the lead to one.

Robbie Glendinning gave Kansas City the lead with a two-RBI single in the sixth inning. 

Glendinning led the Monarchs with six RBIs in KC’s two preseason contests.

The Monarchs used three consecutive hits to pull away in the seventh. Ross Adolph, Alvaro Gonzalez and Jorge Bonifacio each slapped singles to extend Kansas City’s lead to 5-2.

The Monarchs’ bullpen was phenomenal for the second straight day. The quartet of Liam Mendez, Will Stevens, Collin Brougham and Blake Goldsberry each hung zeroes.

Tyler McKay dealt a scoreless eighth to round out the victory.

Audacy’s The Bet KC to Serve as Flagship Radio Home for the Kansas City Monarchs

The Bet KC (KWOD-AM), an Audacy station, will serve as the flagship radio station for the Kansas City Monarchs of the American Association of Professional Baseball. As part of the partnership, the station will air all away games, beginning on Friday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. CT when the team takes on their division rival, the Sioux City Explorers.

The Monarchs’ roster this year includes three former Kansas City Royals: hitting coach Christian Colon, outfielder Jorge Bonifacio and pitcher Jake Brentz.

Carter Woodiel is returning as the Voice of the Monarchs for his third season. This season marks his eighth season as a lead broadcaster in the American Association, and his 500th AAPB game will be this May.

Monarchs’ Arms Deal Preseason Win Over Goldeyes

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City Monarchs’ arms were in midseason form in their opening preseason exhibition.

Monarchs pitching combined for 15 strikeouts in a 6-1 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Monday night at Legends Field. Kansas City used seven different arms to stifle the Winnipeg lineup.

Monarchs’ starter Daniel Martinez dominated. He used a mid-90s fastball to post six strikeouts across three innings.

Connor Holden continued the strikeout trend in the fourth with two punchouts. Relievers Jeff Hakanson and Hunter McMahon each delivered strikeouts in the following two innings. 

Kansas City native Josh Bortka dazzled through a scoreless eighth with two backwards strikeouts.

The Monarchs’ bats gave Kansas City the lead from the first inning. Former Kansas City Royal Jorge Bonifacio lobbed an RBI single to center field to plate Ross Adolph to put the Monarchs up, 1-0.

Two batters later, infielder Robbie Glendinning launched a grand slam onto the Home Run Patio wall to give KC a 5-0 lead.

Glendinning, a former Triple-A prospect, finished 1-for-3 in the win.

Lazaro Armenteros notched Kansas City’s sixth run in the fourth inning. The former Athletics prospect drilled a 104-mph knock to plate Isiah Gilliam from third base.

Former Royals setup man Jake Brentz struck out the side in the ninth inning to seal the 6-1 win.
