Collins Stays Hot, Monarchs Fall In Gary

GARY, Ind. — Gavin Collins continued his hot streak at the plate, but the Kansas City Monarchs dropped one to the Gary SouthShore RailCats on 13-1 Wednesday night at the Steel Yard.

Collins went 3-for-4 and has reached safely in eight of his last nine plate appearances.

The result sets up a rubber game Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Monarchs’ last road test before their home opener on Friday night.

Gary SouthShore scored four runs in the first inning, three on a home run from Francisco Del Valle. They didn’t look back from there on their way to leveling the series.

Monarchs starter Dalton Moats was tagged with the loss, throwing four innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits. He walked two and struck out five.

RailCats right fielder LG Castillo finished the game with five runs batted in, capped off by a two-run double in the sixth off Ruben Garcia to make it 12-1.

Trey Jeans finished the game off for KC, allowing one run over the final two innings and earning two strikeouts.

Kansas City will send Jeff Singer to the mound looking for the rubber game win on Wednesday. The former Philadelphia Phillie will face off against Gary SouthShore’s Edwrd Cuello. First pitch is at 11 a.m Central time.
