DIAZ HEADED TO MEXICAN LEAGUE

LINCOLN, Neb. — LHP Carlos Diaz, who was tied for the Monarchs franchise record in saves at 33, had his contract transferred to the Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican League on Thursday afternoon.
Diaz, 29, had spent the 2018, 2019, and part of the 2021 season in Kansas City. This season, Diaz was third in the American Association in saves (11) and showcased a 1.44 ERA in 23 games. His last outing for the Monarchs came on July 20th against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Diaz last pitched in a foreign league in 2019-20 with Panama in the Caribbean series. He threw one inning and allowed no runs.
Kansas City will continue their road trip tonight with the final game of the three-game series in Lincoln before moving on to face the Winnipeg Goldeyes in Jackson, Tennessee on Friday night. The first pitch tonight is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on the Monarchs Broadcast Network with the pre-game beginning at 6:35 p.m. and the video stream airing on aabaseball.tv.
