DockHounds Take Final Game of the Set, but Monarchs Win the Series

Kansas City, KS — After an emotional series clinching win last night, the Monarchs fell short to the Dockhounds, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon.

They picked up right where they left off last night as the leadoff batter, Hudson Head, laced one into right field to start the day off with a single. It was Grant Richardson who put the Monarchs on the board when he pushed an RBI double off the wall to send in Head. Just like that, the monarchs took 1 -0 advantage. He said, “It was a great way to start the game, especially being able to drive in a run as early as that was. Being able to pass the torch and the wind was finally blowing out today so (it)was able to go with the pitch that way. It turned out for me and worked in our favor.” Richardson finished the day going 1-1 with two walks and a run. A solid outing from the former Marlins prospect.

The Dockhounds responded in the fourth inning as Joshua Mears hooked a ball into left field to bring home Julio Carrares and tie up the game. They tacked on two more runs just an inning later to build their largest lead of the day at 3-1.

A response was needed from Kansas City and thats exactly what happened in the sixth. After Richardson walked, Austin Callahan arrived on the scene with an RBI double in the left center field gap to allow Richardson to score. It was Callahan’s third RBI this season to make a it a 3-2 ballgame. This game was tied after a passed ball behind the Dockhound catcher to send in Callahan.

Unfortunately, Lake Country would retake the lead in the seventh when Jack Blomgren led off with a triple. He would go on to eventually score via error and that would be the final run of the afternoon.

The Monarchs officially wrap up their six-game home stand going 4-2 in that time with two series wins. They will hit the road and open up a three-game set with the Lincoln Saltdogs tomorrow night before returning back to Legends Field for nine game in a row.
