Monarchs Blank Explorers to Even the Series

Kansas City, KS — It was an eventful night at Legends Field where all it took was one inning for the Monarchs to seal a victory over Sioux City. They put together four runs in the second frame to earn a 4-0 win.

This game had a range of emotions with a fight ensuing in the third inning that led to multiple ejections from both sides. Contrary to yesterday, it was the Monarchs who took an early lead and never looked back. In the second inning, Trevor Boone registered a homer for the second day in a row when he roped a solo shot to left field. Boone talks about the team in the clubhouse, “We just got a good group of guys and a good staff. Everybody stays within each other, I know it got a little crazy out there today, but that shows we got everybody’s back.”

The second frame kept rolling after Brady Lindsly walked and Josh Bissonette singled to left field. The nine-hole hitter, Hudson Head, made his mark on the game when he hooked an RBI triple to right field to bring in both runners. Just a batter later, Marcus Smith sent Head into score from a sacfly to cap off a four-run inning.

Austin Hansen earned his third start on the mound and was a big part of this shutout. He produced a strikeout-heavy day with seven punch outs in four innings of work. Hansen talks about what the coaches relay to this extremely talented bullpen, “They are trying to tell us to fill up the zone and throw our best pitches. (Coach) Matt (Hall) has been great with the usage of relievers, starters, and just putting guys in the right position at the right time. It’s been a fun group to be apart of so far.”

Through the four Kansas City pitchers that touched the hill out of the bullpen, they registered 14 strikeouts with only five hits and no runs given up. Once again, it was another quality performance from this exceptional pitching staff.

This group earned their third shutout of the season and will have the opportunity to win their fourth-straight series with a 1:05 pitch set for tomorrow afternoon.
