KANSAS CITY, Kan. —Carter Woodiel has won over American Association fans with his unique blend of fun and informative play-by-play, attention-grabbing highlight videos and engaging live content. Now, he’s ready to kick-start the next era of Kansas City Monarchs broadcasting.
Woodiel will become the Voice of the Monarchs starting with the 2023 season as the club’s Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations, the club announced Wednesday. 2023 marks the 20th season of professional baseball in Kansas City, Kansas.
“We’re delighted to have Carter join the Monarchs team. He’s the right person at the right time,” Monarchs owner Mark Brandmeyer said. “Carter is a trusted, credible voice in the region and has an insider’s perspective on baseball, the American Association, communications and local Kansas City media. After his success at the American Association, we’re thrilled he chose to bring his skill set and energy to the ballpark and our organization.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the Monarchs organization,” Woodiel said. “The club’s venerable history, winning tradition and commitment to excellence make this a truly thrilling partnership. I’m looking forward to growing the Monarchs’ outstanding fan base and bringing fans closer than ever to the team they love. I can’t wait to get started!”
2023 will be Woodiel’s sixth season in the American Association. The 2018 graduate of the University of Missouri spent three years as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations with the Sioux Falls Canaries from 2018 through 2020. He moved into his role with the AAPB in 2021, hosting and producing the league’s daily whiparound highlights show and calling the league’s Game of the Week, among numerous other duties.
Fans can hear Woodiel’s call of all 100 Monarchs games on AABaseball.tv, the Association’s streaming service. He’ll also provide an audio call of select games, the details of which will be announced at a later date.
Woodiel will officially step into his new role on January 1. In addition to serving as the play-by-play voice of the team, Woodiel will manage the club’s external relations working to enhance the marketing and media outreach in 2023 and oversee the Monarchs’ live broadcast production.
Alongside his work in baseball, the 26-year-old Woodiel serves as the play-by-play voice of the University of South Dakota’s women’s basketball team, currently in his third season. Other career stops include a season as women’s basketball broadcaster at High Point University in North Carolina and three years as a digital content producer with Newsy, a video-focused digital newsroom.
The Monarchs open the upcoming season on Friday, May 12, on the road against the Sioux City Explorers. Their 2023 home opener is set for Friday, May 19 against the Sioux Falls Canaries. Fans can buy tickets, check out upcoming promotions and learn more about the team at MonarchsBaseball.com.
